The Chronicles of Robin Rochelle Coachman, Jr.

  Early Childhood

  • Robin, Jr., affectionately known as "Robby," was cherished by all who knew him. He received his nickname to distinguish him from his father, choosing to spell it "Robby." As the youngest sibling, Robby adored his older brother, Daniel III, who was just over a year older. Despite Daniel being diagnosed with Spinal Meningitis at 9 months, which led to cerebral palsy and developmental delays, Robby never saw any difference between them. He learned sign language early on to communicate with Daniel, becoming really good at it.

  • At just one year old, while attending physical therapy sessions with Daniel at Casa Colina Rehabilitation, Robby was selected to be featured on a nationwide poster for Shaken Baby Syndrome awareness. (Picture featured above)

  • Robby became a member of Kids Management at 12, working as background talent in films like *Mr. Woodcock* (2007), *The Celestine Prophecy* (2006), and *Sky High* (2005).

  • Robby experienced the passing of his only brother  Daniel when he was just 7 years old. Though he deeply missed his brother, Robby found solace in his childhood friend Chris, who became like a big brother to him. Growing up at Davidson Child Care, Robby gained 11 "bonus cousins," including Damion, who also became like a brother, and Crystal, his close friend and "sister," with whom he shared a love for creative arts.

  • Robby attended Echoes of Faith Christian Center, where he accepted Christ at the age of 8. He was actively involved in Promiseland Children’s Church, participated in Christmas plays, Class Skits, Summer camps, and won the Royal Ranger Derby race with his hand-crafted pinewood car.

Robby’s Leadership and Social Life

  • Robby was a natural leader, serving as Team Captain alongside his friends Manny, Andrew, Jimmy, and Gil. Together, they formed one of the best teams in the history of Ontario Christian High School Football, leading the Knights to the CIF championships.
  • Robby was also very social. His childhood friend Courtney invited him to the Sadie Hawkins Dance at her school, and he attended several proms outside of his own school. Raised by his father to be respectful, Robby always asked the girls’ fathers for permission before taking them to proms or on dates. This gesture earned him the respect of both the girls and their fathers. Known for his love of parties and his dancing skills, Robby was popular with his peers.
  • Beyond athletics, Robby was also talented in acting. He had experience in plays, commercials, and TV background work, including roles in *The Bernie Mac Show*, *Everybody Hates Chris*, *The Shield*, *Seventh Heaven*, *Still Standing*, *Summerland*, *NYPD Blue*, and *Dear White People*. He also appeared in a public service announcement for Volunteers of America

  • Robby’s Involvement in the Impact Generation
  • As a youth, Robby was deeply involved in the Impact Generation at Faith Center Ministries, serving in the Usher and Dance ministries. The group adopted the name "Impact Generation" based on Robby's suggestion, and it became a defining identity for their discipleship ministry. Led by Robby’s father, Robin Sr., affectionately known as “Coach,” the group engaged in deep discussions about faith, always centered on the principle, “I have no heaven or hell to put you in; I am just sharing the Word.”

  • This close-knit group of young people supported each other through life’s milestones, from middle school to college and beyond. Robby also shared a special bond with Nichelle, whom he met at the age of 10. Their relationship blossomed over the years, growing stronger as they matured together in faith and life. Nichelle’s unwavering love for Robby remained constant until his last day.

  • Robby was actively involved in Youth N Action and served as a Junior Deacon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Known for his caring and relational nature, he was deeply committed to his peers and community. Robby became the first youth to receive the Youth N Action Community Service Award from the program's director, Mr. J., with whom he shared a passion for acting. Their close relationship continued as Robby transitioned into college and adulthood.

  • Robby aspired to become an Early Childhood Teacher as he prepared for college. He served as a Camp Counselor at Mt. Zion Children’s Summer Camp for two years, where he was affectionately known as “Mr. Robby” by both the children and their parents.

  • Robby was happiest playing sports and was a gifted athlete in basketball, football, soccer, and lacrosse. He shared a special bond with his first best friend, Matt, whom he met at Ontario Christian Schools. Their friendship was tested during the *Every 15 Minutes* program, an initiative by the California Highway Patrol to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving. Matt was devastated when he was told Robby had passed away, not realizing it was part of the staged program. The experience was so intense that it felt real, and Matt believed he had truly lost his best friend.

Emerging Adulthood

  • Robby began his college journey at South Carolina State University (SCSU) in Orangeburg, where he joined the "Call Me MiSTER" Early Childhood Education Program. Starting the summer after high school, he excelled as a teacher assistant in a summer campus classroom at SCSU. After two years, Robby decided to change his major and returned to California. He then attended Pinnacle College, where he graduated as a Certified Sound Engineer.

Robby’s Journey Through Adulthood

  • Robby served in Mt. Zion Audio Visual Sound Ministry under the leadership of Charles Durley. Robby’s first live recording as sound engineer was a live concert hosted at Mt. Zion Baptist Church for Markees Williams Gospel Music Artist of Los Angeles, California. He was overly excited about this event and really enjoyed every moment of the experience. He also worked as Sound Engineer for AmPac Business Capital for their annual Connecting Faith and Business Summit.

  • He began his work experience with Jersey Mike’s Subs. Then Robby worked for the LA County Fair Association for the Pomona Fairplex where he became a Supervisor for Cornucopia Foods. He managed the food and beverage vendors and was a San Bernardino County Certified Food Handler. He loved this job and met his friends at the Fair annually. He moved on into adulthood with other jobs with various companies in the Inland Empire. His supervisors stated Robin, Jr. was a reliable and dependable employee.

  • Robby lived a full and meaningful life to the age of 33. Despite facing struggles, challenges, pain, and disappointments, he was an overcomer. He sought help for homelessness and substance abuse, attending Behavioral Health classes and advocating against injustice. Robby briefly stayed at Rivers Edge Ranch, where he connected with the animals but left when he felt God's word was misused. Deeply rooted in his faith, Robby knew Jesus personally and held onto his belief in God’s word, even as he faced his silent battles.

  • Taking the initiative to overcome his substance abuse, Robby enrolled himself in the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers in San Bernardino and Pasadena. After three attempts, he successfully completed the program, gaining sobriety and respect from both peers and counselors.

  • His leadership and commitment to recovery shone through, and he was proud of his accomplishment. Robby graduated at the top of his class and continued sober living while working at a grocery store, awaiting his enlistment date into the U.S. Coast Guard.

  • Throughout his life, Robby cherished his family and friends. He loved spending time with them, whether discussing world issues at the dinner table, playing games, watching sports, or traveling. Known for his sharp dressing and various haircut styles, Robby was a handsome man who took pride in his appearance.

  • In 2023, Robby unexpectedly transitioned from this life, having fulfilled his purpose on earth. He lived by his life scripture, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Phil. 4:13), and now rests with God, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, love, and faith.
